Best of New York Fashion Week Fall 2011 - Day 7

Yigal Azrouël

Bright bursts of color—magenta, tangerine, and cobalt blue—imbued Yigal Azrouël 's menswear-inspired Fall 2011 collection with a cheery, playful spirit, one surely welcome in the sea of black that is New York fashion in winter. Rich, luxe sweaters were draped over white button-downs with starched collars, while strong, boxy coats hung free over cardigans cinched with thin belts.

Oscar de la Renta

Like so many designers this season, Oscar de la Renta's Fall 2011 collection is all about fur. But Mr. De la Renta's furs, of course, are unlike other furs, presented in round, helmet-like hats, imperial collars and strangely inviting skirts. There were stately tweeds fit for ladies who lunch, shown alongside intricately beaded ballgowns with cascading tulle skirts.

Michael Kors

Michael Kors' monochromatic vision for fall taps into the sleek '70s Studio 54 look, but stops short of looking retro. Perhaps this is because all the pieces shown in the Fall 2011 fashion show Wednesday were long and starkly clean, a straightforward luxurious that could never be deemed trendy. Kors' ballgowns, many of them featuring eye-catching slits, blouson bodices and high, regal collars, looked as if they were crafted with the muted elegance of Angelina Jolie in mind.

For her Fall 2011 collection, Lepore looked to the stars, incorporating delicate silver beading into her signature ruffles and tiers. Many of the pieces featured were floaty, ethereal dresses that could easily pass for summer fare in soft blues and creams. But there were serious winter pieces too, all with the signature feminine touch: a sweet gray coat with a ruffled skirt, a coyly sexual knee-length leather dress with cut-outs down the front and suede platform booties with shiny patent leather straps. Most pieces were worn over white tights, which continue to be a strong trend for the upcoming winter season.
