M.E.T. Gala Red Carpet 2013 | PUNK: Caos to Couture!

Move over Oscars, when it comes to extraordinary dresses, nothing beats the annual Met Gala. Don't freak out or anything, this just happens to be the biggest night for every fashion fanatic. The soiree's theme? Punk couture!

From Miley Cyrus' mesh to Anne Hathaway's shocking makeover, this year did not disappoint. See all the decadently fabulous looks right here.

If this doesn't call for an OMG, we don't know what does. Anne Hathaway in Vintage Valentino,  bleached her hair blonde for the ball and showed off major side-boob in a sheer black beaded gown with feathered cuffs. Cher would approve.

Our favorite street styler, Miranda Kerr, brought her skills to the red carpet in this striking Michael Kors gown. Sorta reminded us of a '90s monokini—in the coolest way imaginable, of course.

Katy Perry wore a crown to the Met Gala. And for this, we love her. She's in Dolce & Gabbana.

Oh Rooney Mara, you never let us down. The gothic beauty showed up in Givenchy Couture, wearing a white embroidered fishtail dress with a zippered waist and center front. A porcelain complexion and burgundy lips finished things off in her signature fashion.

We were floored by Katie Holmes' gorgeous all-white Calvin Klein look. The elegant silhouette had a gorgeous backless design and long Elvira train. Amazing, right?

Miley Cyrus, in Marc Jacobs, was the perfect candidate for the theme, spiking her short bleached locks and rocking a long-sleeve mesh gown once worn by Kate Moss. Punk perfection.

It's been too long since Blake Lively has made a red carpet appearance! And this gray and black Gucci gown made for a phenomenal come-back look.

Kim Kardashian fearlessly strutted the Met red carpet in this head-to-toe floral gown. A sleek ponytail and berry lip color completed her look. Meanwhile, Kanye West balanced the print with a simple suit.

Jennifer Lopez's faux hawk was nothing short of epic! And her spotted Michael Kors gown was equally mesmerizing. Ladies and gentlemen, JLo is in the house.

Amanda Seyfried donned a long trained gown in a dramatic print. Dangling earrings, a slicked-back 'do, and flawless cateyes made for a standout beauty look.

Whether she's the most beautiful woman in the world or the most hated, Gwyneth Paltrow knows how to dress to impress. A hot pink evening dress with a sheer strip made for a standout dress choice.

Taylor Swift can't quit sheer cutouts! Here she wore a black gown with unique bodice paneling and a bejeweled neckline and shoulders.

Kerry Washington did the unthinkable—she made Vera Wang punk. The gorgeous actress showed up in a satin floral number with lace peplums and bicep-length gloves. We really could have done without that monstrous train, though.

Even Gisele Bundchen's posing was inspired by the evening's punk theme! A black mini with gold eyelets showed off her perfect legs and awesomely lethal heels.

Who would have thought melding Jessica Alba's style with Tory Burch's aesthetic would create this lacy-leather design?

Leave it to Solange Knowles to wear a dizzying print in an electric hue on an asymmetrical silhouette. It's totally her thing. This look was stunning, and so very Solange.

Yes! Thank you, Sarah Jessica Parker, it's fashion moments like this we live for. The actress rocked a mohawk and gorgeous ball gown for the glamorous occasion.

Mary-Kate Olsen joined her twin on the red carpet. As per usual, she chose to be layered in extreme amounts of heavy fabrics, this time a yellow silk robe with fur trim.

We were dying to see what Karolina Kurkova would wear to tonight's event! While it doesn't quite match the drama of last year's sequined turban, whe looked ultra-fierce in Mary Katrantzou's patterned dress and a dark smoky eye.

Could this be the most "normal" evening look we've ever seen on Nicki Minaj? You be the judge.

Christina Ricci dressed her petite figure in one of Vivienne Westwood's signature bustier dresses. The tartan print was perfection. A red lip and shiny side-swept curls made for a lovely finish.

Ashley Olsen isn't one to miss the Met Gala. For the annual fete, she wore a long-sleeve orange beaded dress with a sheer robe-like overlay. Fascinating.

Wait, didn't Ivanka Trump like just have a baby? She looked totally modelesque in a long green skirt with a hip-high slit and stacks of chunky gold spiked jewelry.

Remember Anja Rubik's hip-slip last year? Well, she came a bit more covered up this season in a red leather number with a gold washer hem and coordinating lips.

Anna Wintour was themed for spring in a floral Chanel column dress with cap sleeves. This might be our favorite look of the editor's to date! Her bob, of course, was in full force.

Amare Stoudemire and his wife were one of the first to be spotted on the red carpet. He in an iridescent blazer and sneakers, she in a black feather-adorned maternity gown.

Bey In Sheer Givenchy at the MET Gala

Though Anna Wintour was impressively on time for her own event (so un-Vogue of her), the buzz surrounding the two-hour Met Gala red carpet ceremony centered on Beyonce, who, in classic diva style, showed up about 15 minutes after the majority of celebrity entrances had wrapped. As expected, the Twittersphere was aflutter with Bey's absence, only to shriek with excitement when the new mom showed up.... half-naked?

Escorted up the Metropolitan Museum's infamous steps by Andre Leon Talley, Beyonce wore a dramatic black feathered lace Givenchy gown that pooled into a long, cascading neon purple train. Of course, she paid homage to her 5-month old with her blue nails, and finished off her look with a low, side-parted pony tail. It's quite the followup to last year's Emilio Pucci fitted confection, which garnered mixed reviews despite its obvious drama and impeccable fit.

Though I'm enamored by Beyonce's choice of Givenchy to show off her post-baby body at this year's Met Gala (the sheer overlay is TO DIE), I do wish the fitted slip matched her skin tone better. Up close, it made the gown look a little less Haute Couture and a little more like it was made for a white girl.

Still, you better believe Beyonce is at the top of my list for best dressed at the 2012 Met Gala - girl just gave birth not six months ago and she's walking a red carpet half naked!

What did you think of Beyonce's dramatic look, compliments of Givenchy?

Best and Worst Dressed at the 2012 Costume Institute Gala

There is no costume party quite so celebrated as the Metropolitan Museum of Art's annual Costume Institute Gala, a star-studded benefit that encourages sartorial creativity from its attendees. Take note: This what "going all out" looks like.

My Best Dressed for the Night goes to Beyoncé!!

Not one to suffer discomforts like chilly feet lightly, Beyoncé Knowles showed up to the party with her own personal shag rug ruffling around her ankles. The singer's long furry purple train distracted us almost long enough to miss all that sheer black Givenchy goodness attached to it.

Newlywed Carey Mulligan, the evening's co-host, showcased her impressively tiny waist in a Prada frock smattered with silver and gold fish scale paillettes of different sizes. Nothing beats a classic silhouette paired with an intensely modern texture.

Classic beauty Camilla Belle looked ready to party with Howard Hughes and the grand dames of old Hollywood in her slinky beaded Ralph Lauren gown with its sheer tulle yoke. Belle's art deco earrings, shiny side-parted bun, and deep wine-hued lipstick augmented the decadent flavor of her look. The lady is a fabulous, fabulous vamp.

Elizabeth Banks is straight up fearless. When she zipped into this intensely architectural Mary Katranzou gown, she had to have known she'd end up in the back pages of Us Weekly above lame jokes about her being able to balance her drink on her peplum.

There was nothing inviting about MaryKate Olsen's self-designed black gown, a stark, cool piece that looked particularly dramatic juxtaposed with her new platinum blonde hair. How long do you think it took her to get that fresh-out-of-soccer practice updo disheveled just so?

Taking a cue from her latest music video, Rihanna vamped it up in a sexy form-fitting black gown by Armani that fit the songstress this like second (alligator) skin. While the front of the dress was demure, the back dipped low to show off RiRi's stream of stars back tattoo. I have to admit I hated the hair though.

Emma Stone looks like a perky little child star in this Lanvin dress—which isn't to say it's not fabulous. Stone matched the playful vibe of this palette and jewel-encrusted piece with a bouncy up-do and a bright blue manicure.

Cameron Diaz made Stella McCartney proud in this golden beaded creation, which weighed a whopping 30 pounds. The heavy dress got the final stamp of approval from Anna Wintour, although we're not sure she OK'ed the towering pompadour.

Color blocking is in this year, but Kristen Stewart couldn't quite pull off this kicky Balenciaga number. It's hard to tell if she was the victim of a bad fit or just bad posture, but whatever the case, her over-the-top lace-up pumps didn't help her cause.

Amy Adams turned to one of her favorite designers, Giambattista Valli, for a Met Gala gown this year. The cream Grecian gown was accented by a hint of black and a metallic bow at the waist. The actress' best accessory of all was her flowing red hair, carefully styled in sexy curls.

Renee Zellweger surprised us all by opting to wear a backless Emilio Pucci number instead of her regular go-to designer, Carolina Herrera. The dramatic gown featured sheer sleeves and train made up of rows and rows of tiny ruffles. Worth noting: The actress also wore a backless dress with a train to last year's event.

Kate Bosworth arrived in a short, feathered ombre gown by Prada. The actress paired her garnet and navy frock with sky-high stilettos, a sleek bun, and matching blood red lipstick to create a darkly sexy look.

Sofia Vergara is normally a fashion knock out, but we're not sold on this fussy Marchesa number. The beaded dove gray gown suffers from an overabundance of tulle around the bust and waist, which are normally the parts of Sofia's gorgeous figure that she likes to show off the most. In the actress' corner? her vibrant pink lipstick and her sleek brown tresses.

oh yea.. & these notables attended as well...
