Confirmed: Yves Saint Laurent will be Renamed Saint Laurent Paris, Moving HQ to Los Angeles

Executives at Yves Saint Laurent have confirmed that yesterday's rumors are true—newly minted creative director Hedi Slimane will rename the storied French fashion house Saint Laurent Paris. Additionally, Slimane will relocate the design studio headquarters from Paris to Los Angeles.

WWD reports that the ready-to-wear line, currently called Saint Laurent Rive Gauche, will be renamed Saint Laurent Paris; the "Yves Saint Laurent name will continue to be used for 'institutional' purposes, and the YSL logo... will remain intact in its original version." 


As for the move to Los Angeles, "The creative studio is in a designer's head, it resides within the person," Pierre Berge, co-founder of the Yves Saint Laurent label. "Hedi lives in Los Angeles. He should be left to do fashion in a city he likes."

Christian Louboutin Sicks a Private Investigator on Dior

We think the design of a shoe should speak for itself, much more than the color of its soles. But Christian Louboutin has territory issues and a word to the wise, the red sole is his. His you hear! Louboutin's lawsuit against YSL for creating a red shoe with a red sole is ongoing, but it sounds like the designer's issues with copycats stem far deeper than we had originally thought.

Court papers filed on Tuesday show Louboutin got information from a private investigator who said Christian Dior was planning to launch a red-soled shoe collection next season. The PI was hired to find information on the YSL case, but instead found information about Dior. Louboutin will not press charges against Dior, and Dior denies the claims.

The case against YSL presses on, with remarks from both sides getting snippier by the second. YSL says:

Louboutin’s trademark should have never been granted...We just don’t think that any fashion designer should be able to monopolize any color.

While Louboutin's team shot back and said the claim was "utter rubbish" and "unless you are living in a cave" the consumer recognizes a red sole as a Louboutin. But don't worry, Louboutin doesn't claim to own every red under the sun. Louboutin's lawyer Harley Lewin said:

We are not claiming to own every red under the sun. There’s a particular red that Christian uses on his shoes, a bright, lacquered red. We aren’t saying burgundy or orange-red, we aren’t saying pink. We don’t own any other red but that red.

The case will be decided on Friday by New York judge Victor Marrero.

Christian Louboutin Sues YSL Over Signature Red Soles

Christian Louboutin is suing YSL. He has put his red-soled foot down and wants the brand to quit copying his signature look. Now, most people would be up in arms about one designer brand ripping off another, but let's put the situation into context, shall we?

As we all know, Louboutin is famous for his unique red-soled shoes. From miles away, any fashionista worth her salt can spot a Louboutin. This season, YSL has launched its signature Tribute pump in red with a matching red sole. But before you decide a winner in the fight—there's more. The shoe in question accompanies a purple shoe with a purple sole, a green shoe with a green sole and so on. In a series of shoes with matching soles, we can't have one mis-matched! So, what if YSL wants to make a red shoe? Louboutin's lawyers say:

The defendants' use of red footwear outsoles that are virtually identical to plaintiff's Red Sole Mark is likely to cause and is causing confusion, mistake and deception among the relevant purchasing public as to the origin of the infringing footwear.

Both gals finished their looks with YSL signature box clutches and classic pumps.
