Karl Lagerfeld Watches? - Designer Collaborates With Fossil

Chanel Creative Director Karl Lagerfeld holds an interesting position in the fashion industry as being not only the master of haute couture, but also a pioneer in the world of high-low collaborations—Lagerfeld was, famously, one of the first to team up with fast-fashion retailer H&M and he's gone on to work on projects with brands as diverse as Sofitel hotels, Steiff (teddy bears) and Diet Coke. This month, Lagerfeld will release a collection of watches with Fossil.

We got a sneak peek at the Karl Lagerfeld for Fossil collection at the Project trade show in Las Vegas this week—and we were really impressed! The seven watch platforms form a collection that bridges the gap between classic, luxe, and fashion-forward-tough with embellishments such as metallic leathers, pyramid studs (a Lagerfeld signature!), and bold chain bracelets.

Key styles in the series include the "Karl Seven," which highlights Lagerfeld's favorite number (seven); "Karl Zip," which we hear is Lagerfeld's personal favorite in the collection and features an exposed zip in its design; and the "Karl Chain," which is, um, all about the chain bracelet (see below).

The Karl Lagerfeld for Fossil collection will officially launch nationwide on Thursday, February 28th, but if you live near a Bloomingdale's, you're in luck—because the department store will be stocking the Karl Lagerfeld for Fossil collection beginning this Saturday. Priced between $150 and $595, these watches are a more affordable piece of Lagerfeld history you can wear everyday. Visit WatchKarl.com to find out where the watches will be sold near you.

And check out our close-up encounter with the watches at Project Las Vegas, right here:

To celebrate the official kick-of of holiday 2012, UK department store Selfridges tweeted these amazing Christmas stockings—inspired by the one and only Karl Lagerfeld!

Turns out, Selfridges commissioned a handful of designers—including Karl Lagerfeld and Henry Holland—to create custom limited-edition stockings. The Karl stocking is available, right now, for £200 at Selfridges.com:

Too cute, right?

Top Affordable Designer Diffusion Lines

Since Isaac Mizrahi's famous collaboration with Target, designer diffusion lines have exploded. Last winter Lanvin for H&M flew off the shelves in a frenzy and even Karl Lagerfeld and Donatella Versace have joined the affordable diffusion trend. Here's a look at some high-fashion gone affordable as well as upcoming collaborations we're holding our breath for.

The mastermind behind Kim Kardashian's wedding gowns (plural), Vera Wang has been the designer on everyone's lips for years. From bridesmaids dresses to mattresses, there are few products Vera doesn't have her name on. Lucky for us, the talented designer has an affordable diffusion line, Simply Vera by Vera Wang, at Kohls. The vast collection encompasses everything from jewelry and clothes to bedding and footwear.

The world is waiting with bated breath for the Versace and H&M collaboration. Versace is simply synonymous with high-end fashion, and come November 19, the brilliant designs of Donatella will be at our fingertips. Thanks to a sneak peek, we already know the collection will be rife with Versace's famous greek key pattern, studded leather and signature fringe.

Everyone's favorite Project Runway winner, Christian Siriano, has been teaming up with Payless Shoes since the Fall of 2009 to give us ultra-fierce footwear. We are currently loving his sky-high platform booties and green alligator embossed platforms.

To much surprise, the reigning king of Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld, recently launched an eponymous diffusion line exclusively for Macy's. Hot pink cocktail dresses and sophisticated ascot styles hit the floors of the department store this fall to mixed reviews.

Snoop Dogg, Lil' Wayne and Kanye West Are Haute for Fashion

With rap music's love of over-the-top bling and conspicuous glamour, it was only a matter of time before it infiltrated the world of haute fashion. When a collaboration with Snoop Dogg and Karl Lagerfeld is in our midst, it's official: The worlds of rap music and fashion are colliding. This is the third in a series of recent notable news items on the intersection of rap and fashion.

Lagerfeld recently made a visit to Saint Tropez where he hooked up with Snoop Dogg to film a scene for his latest music video. WWD reports the high fashion high roller was decked out in all white at the popular vacation spot while filming a scene for the rap legend's next single, appropriately titled "St. Tropez."

Snoop isn't the only hip hop artist to broach fashion's barriers. It was just revealed that the leopard print jeans Lil' Wayne performed in at the MTV VMAs were actually women's jeggings! Tripp NYC identified their baggy hip-hugging style and (get excited) the versatile design is still available for sale online at Karmaloop.

Meanwhile, another rapper with a taste for women's clothing is reportedly hustling to ready his debut collection for New York Fashion Week. According to Rolling Stone, Kanye West is in cahoots with British designer, Louise Goldin. While their shop is set up in Goldin's London studio, the secretive launch will be held in NYC very soon. Needless to say, we are eagerly waiting.

Fashion's Funniest Tweeters

Twitter seems to be the daily go-to for everyone from A-list celebrities to fashion demagogues. From fashion advice to hollywood insight, see what the funniest fashion stars have to say—in 140 character or less!

If the walls of Condé Nast—which houses the Vogue office—could talk, it would read something along the lines of the tweets on @CondeElevator 's account. The tweets are laugh-out-loud hilarious and provide precious insight on the world of fashion publishing. While we're sad that to report that the anonymous tweeter has retired, here are some fun highlights:

"Woman #1 to Woman #2, holding an omelet: What's the occasion?' Woman #2: ...huh? Woman #1: I would need an occasion to eat that."

"Girl #1: I love that necklace, I saw it at Banana last week and almost bought it too. Girl #2: [flips hair] This is Gucci."

It's no surprise that the genius behind the powerhouse brand that is Chanel would have a plethora of witty advice. While @Karl_Lagerfeld is written by a fan posing as Karl, the quotes are real quotes from Karl that were pulled from old interviews.

"Florals are for middle-aged women with weight problems."

"I only go to places if I have a professional reason. I'm not a tourist."

The razor-sharp Joan Rivers finds a way to translate her wit unto the interwebs. Her tweets range from fashion commentary to classic Joan sassiness:

"French Vogue has published racy photos of a 10 year-old model, which is outrageous! Everyone knows that models are over the hill by age 9."

"There is NO WAY that Bert and Ernie are gay. They haven't changed their outfits in 25 years."

Mickey Boardman, the legendary editorial director for Paper magazine, is known for his flamboyant style and sharp wit. Mickey tweets about everything from breaking fashion news to reality show commentary:

"Straight people are funny"

"The Italians may have given the world Michelangelo, Da Vinci & Rafael but American has birthed the Real Housewives & Hillbilly Handfishin'"

It may not be Oscar de la Renta himself, but it's as close as we're going to get. The twitter feed, @OscarPRGirl, are the musings of a PR girl for Oscar de la Renta, chronicling her life from the inside of the famed fashoin house. She's witty, smart, and gives us a decadent glimpse at the world of Oscar!

"Guy at natural food store: do you have a shirt? Yeah, um, we require shirts in the store. Me: this is a shirt. #croptop #fashionproblem"

"one thing I love about a full skirt is that you can really walk in it"

Sneak Peek: Karl Lagerfeld for Macy's

We have to (eagerly) await August 31st to get our hands on Karl Lagerfeld's Macy's collection, but we've got a sneak peek at the stylish and affordable goods! The 45-piece capsule collection looks sure to please a wide range of Macy's customers.

While the bright and feminine looks don't scream Chanel, Karl's touch comes through in his crisp white collared shirt (styled, of course, with a chain necklace) as well as a sleek collared shift dress with a British school girl mood. Not to mention the basic tee and tank with Karl's black-and-white sketch front and center.
Karl offers an option for night wear with touches of hot pink amongst black leather. His feminine office-to-dinner pieces, however, might be the most popular of the collection. Romantic chiffon frocks and floral dresses, tweed coats and button-downs all give the versatility every woman craves.
