Solange Covers COMPLEX Mag + New Video!

Don't sleep on Solange. After trying the major record label route for a while, she made the switch to indie artist and her last EP, True, is her best release yet. After years of hard work, it's all finally coming together for her. But that doesn't mean there wasn't hardships along the way, whether it be label issues, the challenges of finding the perfect producer, or balancing music and motherhood. Still, she's as authentic as they come, unwilling to bend or break.

With this being her first Complex cover, we knew we had to capture the essence of a strong, powerful woman. So we called on the visionary photographer team JUCO for a sexy but classy cover shoot that had the Houston native hot in her heels. Meanwhile, journalist Laura Checkoway crafted an in-depth profile that touches on everything from Solange's pre-show rituals to her collaboration with Dev Hynes to an important lesson a fourth grade teacher taught her. The issue goes on sale in June, but you can read the full cover story right now... COMPLEX

Check out her spread & new video after the jump!

Nicki Minaj For Teen Vogue

Nicki Minaj covers Teen Vogue's June/July issue, and while her smile says "Everything is great!" that look in her eyes is definitely, "Get me out of this corset."

On why she refuses to fake the funk
People treat this business like it’s high school. It can absolutely feel like one big popularity contest, and you know what? I can’t be bothered. I can’t allow myself to play ridiculous games with grown adults in the industry. I can’t be nice to someone just because they’re hot right now. I can’t do it.

On how her parents dysfunctional relationship affected her
Every time my parents fought, my mother would have us move and I would have to go to a new school, which meant I’d have to face the task of making new friends. I dreaded it. I had butterflies in my stomach each time: Are people going to like or hate me? … Sometimes there’d be a fight, sometimes not. I let people know I wasn’t going to be pushed around.

On why she no longer pays attention to the critics
I used to read the bad things people said about me, then I asked myself, ‘Why am I reading that when I have millions of people saying great things?’ You cannot give negativity power. I tell teens, if you’re having a problem, there’s nothing wrong with deleting your social media. If people keep taunting you and you keep reading it, it’s poison.

Zoe Kravitz Goes Topless in Artistic Spread for V Magazine

Zoe Kravitz is all grown up! In the latest issue of V Magazine, Zoe talks openly about her burgeoning career, her parents, and hanging out with the ‘handsom’ Jaden Smith. Check out a few excerpts below…
‘My mom’s whole thing was that she wanted me to wait until I knew what I really wanted,’ Zoe said. ‘She’d always say, “Once you step into the spotlight, you can’t take it back.”’
The X Men: First Class star revealed that she never expected her newfound star status, even after deciding to become an actress.
‘I definitely always saw myself as a theater or an indie film actress, because those were the things I was always drawn to,’ Zoe said. ‘I just kind of assumed that those were the types of projects that were drawn to me too.’
‘There were moments that I was hanging out with Jaden and thinking, I can’t believe you’re 14, I have to check myself, like what I say to you,’ she said. ‘He has so much personality and so much swag, he is so much cooler than I am.’
She then joked: ‘And he’s so handsome, I was always like, When you’re older, you know, we’ll hangout… Nope, that’s inappropriate, you’re 14.’

Watch out, Kylie!

Rita Ora Covers 'Elle' in Mickey Mouse Ears + Checks Into Fat Camp!?

How cute is Rita Ora on the cover of Elle's May 'Women in Music' issue? Mickey Mouse ears!

Can someone explain to us why singer Rita Ora—svelte singer Rita Ora—checked herself into Viva Mayr?

For those of you who may not be as obsessed with the fat camp industry as I am, Viva Mayr is one of the most grueling weight loss clinics in the world. Located in Austria, the clinic takes a strict and puritan approach to weight loss and health. Clients drink liters of diluted Epsom salt water upon arrival, subsist on small high-fiber meals (that they have to chew 30 to 40 times each bite), receive regular therapeutic spa treatments, and participate in a lot of exercise. (Truth is, I've always wanted to go there—ever since I read how India Knight went there years ago, hung out with sheikhs, and lost a ton of weight in a week.)

So why did Ora—who, by any standard, definitely does not need to shed any poundage—spend time at Viva Mayr?
"Rita wants to get in perfect shape for the summer and her forthcoming promo appearances," a source told the Mirror. "This was a last-ditch, and extreme measure. Following a detailed examination and fitness test, she was given a rigid diet-and-exercise regime, with a few deep-tissue massages thrown in for good measure. The food is mainly boiled potatoes and broths, and guests are taught to savor their food by chewing it a minimum of 30 times per mouthful. The program set for Rita was designed to be a blueprint for the rest of her life, helping her keep on the straight and narrow."

Kerry Washington Covers Ebony’s Scandal Issue

You can’t help but be proud of actress Kerry Washington. She’s come so far since her role in the 2001 dance flick, “Save The Last Dance” and she continues to be a force to be reckoned with in Hollywood, all while being a positive role model.

She’s covering this month’s Ebony Magazine (looking fierce as usual) and inside, she shares intimate details from her past as well as the significance of portraying such dynamic female characters such as Olivia Pope on ABC’s Scandal and the slave, Broomhilda, in “Django Unchained.” She discusses the connection the two characters have, and how they relate to her own personal life.

Catch a few highlights:
Kerry on what she loves about Olivia Pope

In her professional life, she is so powerful and is this self-made woman…But in [Olivia’s] personal life, she is a mess and I kind of love that…I love that I get to embody all of that complexity because I also think it takes a certain level of progress for us to have a Black Woman that powerful be an emotional mess on television.

Kerry on the connection between Olivia and Broomhilda:

[Olivia] is the answer to Broomhilda’s prayers…I’m grateful that these two women on opposite ends of history, on opposite ends of their experience, both strong women but in such different ways, can exist at the same time.
It’s definitely Kerry season.

In this issue, which is pegged “The Scandal Issue,” Ebony also lists 50 scandalous events that have rocked Black culture and features an article titled, “What Really Happened to Pastor Zachery Tims” which examines how the once reigning pastor of a Florida mega church died mysteriously in a New York hotel room.

You can catch this issue when it hits newsstands Feb. 5.

Kendall and Kylie Jenner For GLAMOUR Magazine!

Kendall Jenner and Kylie Jenner—the not-Kardashian Kardashians—make a pretty appearance in the March 2013 issue of Glamour magazine, where they dish on the future baby Kimye, beauty tips, growing up in the spotlight, and the whole Kardashian clan. Check out some of the best bits—and some of our favorite photos from the issue!—below.

On the benefits of having a reality TV show: "Our family is closer because of the show," says Kylie. "And when we are older, we'll have the memories on tape. If some of those moments hadn't been filmed, I wouldn't remember them!"

On the drawbacks of having a reality TV show: "We appreciate everything that we have, but we don't remember what it's like to be normal kids who aren't harrassed by the paparazzi," says Kendall. "I hate that. We're underage girls. I don't want to be followed by random men I don't know. It can also be hard to deal with other kids who are jealous or mean. I can't post a picture on Instagram without being criticized."

On each of their sisters:
"If we're fighting, we call Khloe," Kendall says. "She's our peacemaker. Kourtney keeps us down-to-earth." "Kim teaches us how to deal with the spotlight," Kylie says.

Their top beauty tip:
"I think a natural look is prettier," Kendall says. "I rarely wear makeup, but we always wear sunscreen on our faces."

On not being a Kardashian: "We're full-throttle Jenners," Kendall says. "We don't have any desire to be Kardashians." "All that matters is that we're a family," Kylie says. Want more of Kylie and Kendall? Check out their full interview right here on Glamour.com. And don't forget to pick up the March issue of Glamour magazine, on newsstands now!

Kim Kardashian In Arabian Fashion Magazine ‘Hia’ [Photos]

Well, if anybody can get away with showing skin in an Arabian fashion magazine…it’s Kim Kardashian.

The reality star swapped her usual skin-tight, assets-emphasizing clothing for a series of diaphanous veils worn over elegant evening gowns for the cover shoot.

Although she had on veils, they didn’t hide her cleavage-exposing plunging neckline gown designed by Stephane Rolland – definitely not traditional Muslim attire. It might even be considered dangerous to wear such an outfit in many Middle Eastern countries.

Kim recently visited Kuwait and Bahrain to promote the Millions of Milkshakes ice cream-and-yogurt chain.

Kim talked to the Daily Mail about her cover shot: “Hia is the leading luxury lifestyle magazine for Arab woman, and I’m honored to be on the cover. This shoot was so different from any I have done before, and I’m so pleased with how the cover turned out. I loved how [Rolland's] couture creations brought a modern twist to old-school glamour.”

Mohieb Dahabieh, the creative director for the shoot, also explains his concept: ‘I chose to re-inflate an air of mystery into the simmering Kim and usher her back to a bygone era. In exploring the psyche of image, in shifting the frontier between public and private, was I perhaps prompting the perfect 21st century bombshell to unpack her inner allure and taste the transcendental from within?”

What do you think of the shoot?

Look of the Day: Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen

(Getty)
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen attended the WSJ. Magazine's "Innovator of the Year" awards last night wearing a label close to their hearts—their very own, The Row.

As per usual, the twins were attached at the hip, looking enviably sleek. Ashley Olsen went for a long, loose-fitting, black V-neck dress from The Row's spring 2013 collection. Mary-Kate Olsen tried something a little bit more tailored, sporting the twins' spring 2013 navy blue suit. She couldn't escape her usual drapery, though, and wore a long matching scarf up front.

What do you think, did these girls knock it out of the park? Look at the rest of the pictures below, and let us know what you think in the comments!

Solange Covers ELLE South Africa!

WOW! Solange is WORKING!

Solange is becoming the mixed pattern queen, and taking her talents ALL over the globe! Making every trip count, while Solo was in South Africa shooting her latest visuals for "Losing You", she also shot her cover for ELLE Magazine South Africa!

For the shoot, Solange assisted stylist and fashion editor Asanda Sizani with picking out pieces by South African designers that most suited her style. They chose tons of mix and match patterns and the yellow cover was chosen in post production to fit her ‘sunny personality’. According to the feature writer, who interviewed Solo:
My interview with her was an incredible experience. We sat in her penthouse at 15 on Orange on the Thursday night and chatted while she had her nails done. It didn’t feel like a formal interview at all, and we chatted our way through the points I wanted to cover. The sense I got throughout the interview was that she is a real person; a young mom who is doing what she loves.
