7 of the Hottest Swimsuit Trends for Summer 2012

The waves are calling and it's time to pick out the perfect summer suit (or three) to pack for that much-needed beach vacay. Get some inspiration from these hot designer bikinis, monokinis, one-pieces and cover-ups, and you'll be reaching for the SPF in no time.

Marc Jacobs took the season's popular peplum trend and applied it to swimwear. His Spring 2012 suits featured wide straps and tiny "collars" that channeled sailor pin-up girls. Could there be a more perfect suit for a retro darling like Zooey Deschanel or Taylor Swift? We think not.

Thank you, Marios Schwab, for creating a monokini that reveals only the sexiest (and easiest-to-tone) part of a woman's stomach. We would kill to get our hands on this powder blue terrycloth number, especially if we can find the companion satin-lined cape. Divine.

Look close, that's right, you're seeing tiny Zebras on this Peter Som swimsuit. It's hard to say which is cuter, this cheeky animal print or the colorful zoomed-in roses of his balconette design (that Ashley Greene happened to wear on the cover of Glamour).

Mark Fast's citrus fringe makes for some unbeatable cabana wear. These babies are just begging to be worn in the tropics. Heck, even his chunky accessories are island-ready!

It's no secret Tommy Hilfiger is a big fan of playful brights. Who would have thought a pink camouflage one-piece could actually be cute? These suits are yet another force behind the '90s nostalgia movement.

Leave it to Hervé Léger to make a one-piece scandalous. His spring motif was clear: sex bomb meets gladiator. And what better exemplifies it than these faux cutouts and strappy knee-high sandals? Now those will make for some very interesting tan lines.

Yigal Azrouël paid homage to Halston's legendary deep-V one-piece with this super-sexy suit. White just happens to be our new favorite swimwear color due to its ability to make any skin tone feign melanin.

Fall 2012 :: Preen + Lela Rose + Michael Khors

ImaxTree
Last season, Preen‘s Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi wowed us with their colorful, digitized prints and apparently the designers were content to carry on that theme, because the same sort of abstract, nature-inspired prints were alive and well this season.

The first look came out–a white blouse with an orange stripe, and a vibrant floral skirt–and we had to double check the line sheet to make sure we were indeed seeing a fall collection, and not a spring one. The runway gave way to more digitized florals, and swaths of orange, light green, and cobalt blue. Eventually more winter-appropriate hues made their way onto the runway in the form of graphic, black and white prints, and sweaters with an abstracted leaf print.

Despite the slightly off-season color palette, bold prints, and brazen mish-mash of everything in between, we have to say, the whole thing totally worked. And we’d literally want to wear any of the pieces be it spring, or fall.

Lela Rose proved the beauty of buildings needn't be restricted to concrete and marble with a fresh fall collection rife with geometric patterns. She breathed life into grays and blacks with an abundance of rich rust, mustard and berry hues.

To translate architecture into the accessible pieces she's best known for, Rose focused on using intricate prints on streamlined silhouettes. Sharp sheaths, tailored pantsuits and collarless coats all looked like they'd be right at home on any city streets.

Where Rose unexpectedly shone was in the floor length day dresses she had never before attempted. A dramatic fuchsia design and strapless abstract print gown added major impact to a versatile and truly wearable collection.

Michael Kors opened his Wednesday show with a bang, starting off with a duo of models dressed head-to-toe in bright red ensembles. This season, the all-American designer delivered clothes that exuded a sense of strength and power with graceful ease.

For his fall collection, Kors channeled rugged elegance. He played around with masculine details on ladylike silhouettes—feminine sheath dresses were given a tough-girl edge with leather accents. Textures took center stage in this lineup, with fur, lace and tartan playing central characters.

Being a red-carpet staple, it's no surprise that the standouts from the collection were the evening gowns. The dresses were perfectly crafted, showing off his attention to detail in the drop waists and languid sequins. We're glad to see Kors return to his signature glamorous self, sexy necklines and luxurious fabrics in tow.

Kanye West to Return to Paris Fashion Week

Kanye West is taking the phrase "better luck next time" to heart.

Despite debuting his eponymous line to mixed reviews, the hip-hop star is going to take another crack at fashion design. Kanye's spokesman at the Karla Otto agency announced that the singer-turned-designer will once again show his collection at Paris Fashion Week on March 6.

It's no secret that the guy loves fashion. He interned at Fendi and studied under Giuseppe Zanotti. But one thing's for sure, Kanye has a long road ahead of him before he reaches fellow musician/designer Victoria Beckham's sartorial success.

While we're not sure what to expect from him this time, we're guessing his show will once again draw a star-studded crowd. His last collection debuted to fashion heavyweights like Anna dello Russo, Carine Roitfeld and the Olsen twins. Stay tuned for news on the Kanye West sequel collection!

Fall 2012 Collections: BCBG Max Azria | Jason Wu | Doo.Ri

Sheer '70s Style: BCBG Max Azria Fall 2012

Max Azria didn't stray far from the color-blocking chiffons of his Spring 2012 collection for his Thursday show. Burnt oranges, deep teals, and patchwork furs conveyed a heavy retro vibe. The color palette was a mix of Mila Kunis' wardrobe from That '70s Show and the slinky Studio 54 silhouettes of Bianca Jagger.

One of the most affordable brands from Fashion Week, the line isn't one to focus on avant-garde ideas, smartly offering day-to-night pieces mixed with versatile work wear (as seen in the sophisticated ease of these silky trousers). The play with sheer fabrics was subtly sexy as seen in the nonchalant reveal of skin through translucent pleats as the models strolled down the runway.

Orient Express: Jason Wu Fall 2012

New York Fashion Week got off to a strong start on Friday with Peter Som leading the charge, but it was Jason Wu's decadent lineup that took our breath away.

Wu, traditionally known for his ladylike aesthetic, surprised us with a collection that toes the line between feminine and masculine. For his Fall 2012 lineup, the young designer returned to his roots, drawing inspiration from the Orient à la Marlene Dietrich in Shanghai Express. He gave the traditional cheongsam a modern twist, vamping it up with a sexy keyhole neckline. From the Mao-inspired jackets to retro Chinese-inspired sunglasses, the entire line reflected his attention to detail.

There is certainly no questioning Wu's tailoring skills—from the impeccably crafted capes to the carefully draped gowns, the collection was red and gold sartorial perfection. With such a strong and varied showing of both daytime separates and red carpet-worthy gowns, we expect that Wu's star-studded clientele are happy customers indeed.

Fluid Fashion: Doo.Ri Fall 2012

Doo-Ri Chung captures serene elegance like no other. Don't know the Doo.Ri label? Don't worry, you will: The brand's capsule collection for Macy's is due to launch February 15th and the Fall 2012 collection may just embolden you to fight the eBay vultures to get your hands on the affordable goods.

Friday, the designer showcased what she does best—masterful draping with luxe fabrics. This season Chung combined her signature languid knits with charming tailored details seen in crisp collars, work-perfect pants and select toppers. She even gave a nod to this year's leather craze with a black coat and high-waist trousers that still eloquently flowed with the rest of her pieces.

It looks like Chung could be challenging Donna Karan's seat as the queen of sophisticated comfort.

Amy Winehouse's Family Unhappy Over Jean Paul-Gaultier Couture Collection

The inspiration behind Jean-Paul Gaultier's latest couture collection was crystal clear on Wednesday: Models strutted down the runway with shiny beehive wigs atop their heads, with black liquid eyeliner heartily-applied in a familiar cat-eye fashion. It was all an obvious nod to the late Amy Winehouse, from the boyish pinstripes to the cigarettes some models dangled from their lips.

The collection's reviews were notably mixed. The New York Times' Cathy Horyn appreciated the ease with which Gaultier "evoked [Winehouse's] chaotic essence in a marvelous show, while WWD noted that the show "felt at best ill-advised: a young woman who died tragically less than a year ago the fodder for an oh-so-feisty fashion show."

Unfortunately for Mr. Gaultier, who gushed about Winehouse's "fashion icon" status at the show, Amy's family wasn't impressed by the spectacle. Winehouse's father, Mitch, tweeted Thursday, "We don't support the Jean Paul Galtier collection. It's in bad taste."

Winehouse fans seeking a family-approved sartorial homage to the late chanteuse are better off perusing Amy's last collection for British clothier Fred Perry (it's much more affordable than couture, anyway).

I personally love what Gaultier did with his collection. I thought it was a great nod to Amy Winehouse, for what she was, and what she could have been.

Catwalk - Chanel Iman's Runway Career

Chanel Iman is a veteran of the runway, from Victoria's Secret to high fashion catwalks worldwide. Although most of the attention is paid to her wing-baring appearances, her couture experiences are no less note-worthy. So to pay tribute to them, here are her 15 best!

Despite the amount of layers that Chanel had on during Michael Kors' Spring 2009 show, her signature look was unmistakable. She was white hot in a chic outfit perfect for a summer day. She wore a matching knit vest and dress accessorized with matching all-white accessories including a belt; tote; watch; visor and sunglasses.

Galliano chooses only the best for his high fashion, high drama couture shows. So of course it was no surprise to see Chanel take on one of his whimsical creations during the Christian Dior Fall 2009 show. She vamped it up in a sheer black skirt paired with a fuchsia blazer and feather-adorned hat. It was a ladylike look with a cheeky edge and we loved it!

Whether you fancy hitting the slopes or simply curling up by the fire, there's no way you weren't charmed by the ski bunny outfit Chanel wore in the Fall 2010 D&G show. She wore a belted fair isle sweater with matching boots and even accessorized with goggles! How's that for an apres ski outfit?

Chanel loves feathers, but these were ones of a different kind to the wings she wears for Victoria's Secret. At the DSquared2 Fall 2010 show, Chanel channeled a dark goddess with a strapless dress accented with a dramatic crimson feather bodice.

Not that we're praying for cold weather, but even the wildest snowstorm would feel tame with a jacket this glamorous and cozy. Chanel kept warm at the Ermanno Scervino Fall 2010 show in this glam quilted pea coat with funnel neck and fur-embellished bodice.

Louis Vuitton Spring 2012

Show: Louis Vuitton

Hair: Guido Paulo

Makeup: Pat McGrath

Accessories: Patent high-heeled mules, Lockit and classic Speedy bags in hyper-luxurious fabrics like whitewashed crocodile and deer, silver tiaras on every head

Overall takeaway: A sugar-spun, sugary-sweet Sugar Plum Fairytale of a spring collection

Sugar and spice and all things nice. That's what little girls are made of. It's also what Marc Jacobs's Louis Vuitton collection is made of for Spring '12—if that list encompasses such wonders as gem-studded paper dresses, powdered crocodile and millions of dollars worth of feathers.

Unveiled on a vast carousel—representing "the circular dance of fashion"—in the Cour du Louvre, the Louis Vuitton collection felt like the definitive statement of femininity, a sugar-rush that made your back-teeth hurt. But in a very wonderful way. It neatly tied up many of the season's key themes—pastel palette, sumptuous decoration, '60s couture silhouettes. Wait, did I just say couture? Was this Marc Jacobs's big creative bid for the top dog role at Christian Dior?

Many assume that has already been handed to him on a silver platter—but, for the world's press, this was Jacobs's audition. His show notes constantly returned to the value of the handcraft of the Parisian ateliers, and he lavished their no-expense-spared expertise across these truly beautiful garments. It also had its own distinct handwriting, Jacobs's handwriting, that would be evident no matter what name was on the label inside. We wait with bated breath for the announcement of the new Dior designer. If it were judged purely on this superb offering, Monsieur Marc would be a shoe-in.

KW by Kanye West: Paris FW Debut

So I realize I'm late with this, but here it is... I actually LOVE the Collection, but I might be bias, since I'm a fan..

Kanye West's clothing line was arguably the most anticipated collection of the season. Kanye's love (obsession) with the fashion industry is no kept secret, for months rumors had been circulating over the rapper's entry into high-end fashion.

At last the KW collection was launched in Paris to a fashion savvy audience of celebrities and critics alike, from Anna dello Russo and Carine Roitfeld to Lindsay Lohan and the Olsen twins. There's no question, Kanye knows how to make a grand spectacle. This leads us to the good side of the KW show: the presentation was undeniably immaculate, as to be expected from the musical mastermind. The clothes, however, were lacking the same brilliance. "Heavy might be the operative word," Style.com's Tim Blanks reported, siting the collection as "a baby Balmain vision of womenswear." Those were the kinder of reports on the line.

In her review titled Good Thing Kanye West Has a Day Job, Christina Brinkley of the Wall Street Journal referenced Lindsay Lohan's notoriously disastrous collaboration with Emanuel Ungaro, "Mr. West didn’t receive the standing ovation he seemed to be expecting when he took a bow from the runway." The journalist went on to describe the KW collection (rife with furry backpacks, vulgarly plunging necklines and sloppy bandage dresses) as "Herve Leger meets Donald Trump."

Kanye, however, is not the type to be easily discouraged. We have a feeling he's now prepping for Paris, Fall 2012.

See More Pictures of the Collection HERE.
