A Yes or No Question: Coats as Capes

Now that we've said au revoir to Paris Fashion Week, let's talk about a major trend we spotted off the runways — coats as capes! Seriously, it looks like every third person in our PFW street style gallery is allergic to sleeves.

Like her. Her body is physically rejecting that coat.

Actually, outerwear draped over the shoulders was kind of a look for show-goers in every fashion week city this past month — even during New York Fashion Week's surprise blizzard! — and we're not sure how we feel about it.

It's definitely supposed to appear nonchalant, like "Oh, I just threw this on as I was dashing off to somewhere fabulous." But if you have time to pose for street style photographers you have time to stick your arms through some sleeveholes, right?

And, the few seconds you would save by forgoing sleeves are going to be negated by all the time you'll spend fussing with your bag as you realize you can't just sling it over the shoulder of your impromptu cape.

Plus, a strong gust of wind could blow that coat-cape right off! We saw more than one New York Fashion Week attendee clutching at her over-the-shoulder coat collar for dear life, rather than, you know, actually putting it on.

But, on the other hand, the look does create a clean line that can look very pretty in pictures. And, as The Telegraph points out, Phoebe Philo has been doing this at Celine since 2009, so the trend has been kind of a slow burning one.

Tell us, how do coat capes make you feel?

Miley Cyrus' Unstoppable Fashion Week Style

Miley Cyrus' New York Fashion Week style stuck to a strict color code: black, white, and red. Every look was equally striking and we couldn't get enough.

First, the mohawked star made an appearance at Rachel Zoe's show wearing a blousy '80s jumpsuit in a fearless crimson color. Next, she went a girlier route for Marchesa (it's only right) in a fitted white ruffled sheath dress with leopard pumps and a leather jacket draped over her shoulders. It was her Moschino motorcycle jacket, though, that was on hand for every other outfit. She even wore the rock star piece with a romantic white pleated Maison Martin Margiela gown to brilliant effect.

Miley closed out the week in stripes—first at the Marc Jacobs show in a darling Mickey Mouse crop-top and box-pleat skirt. Next, she joined the Beetlejuice trend in an ASOS maxi-dress with funky shoulder cutouts.

Obsession of the Day: Jeremy Scott's Spring 2013 Gold Machine Gun Paillettes

Jeremy Scott, the wild child of New York Fashion Week, showed a concise and well-edited spring 2013 collection at Milk Studios yesterday afternoon to a crowd that included this season's most ubiquitous front-rower, Olympian Ryan Lochte—who was sitting next to Tyra Banks, celebrity stylist Johnny Wujek, and Paris Hilton.

There were some amazing details in Scott's spring 2013 Middle-East-meets-B-boy-with-a-French-luxury-fashion-house-send-up collection. The sequined leopard-patterned black-and-gold mini-burqas, the toga-draped, classically printed and subtly pleated silk scarf dresses—for both men and women!—and this one amazing placement-print swimsuit:

Our biggest obsession, though, were the machine-gun gold pailletes that dangled off the sheer mesh dresses (top). Political statement or fashion statement, we like seeing a bit of toughness and aggression on the runway every once in a while.

Here are five of our favorite looks from the spring 2013 Jeremy Scott collection:

Solange Knowles In Mixed Prints for NYFW

Solange Knowles is the queen of rocking prints on prints on prints.

She was spotted making her way around Fashion week in a burgundy and blue mixed printed dress accessorized with a yellow purse and cheetah print pumps. Earlier in the week, she was spotted checking out vintage Kenyan designs front row at the Suno Runway show as well as designs by Tibi. She was also spotted at the Alexander Wang Fashion week event dressed in mixed prints while wearing a hat by South African designer Babatunde. She scooped up the hat during her recent visit to Cape Town where she filmed a new music video.

Solange was also spotted in a Nicola Easy print top as she sat front show at the Tibi show with her son Julez earlier in the week.

Rachel Roy Spring 2013 Show Report: Fun Accessories & Playful Prints (+ 5 Favorite Looks)

For spring 2013, Rachel Roy unleashed collection full of electro-bright hues, quirky prints—birds mixed with skulls, anyone?—and flowy fabrics. But what really caught our attention at the presentation were the killer cute accessories.

There were tons of compact crossbody bags in the mix (see above)—all in exotic textures and patterns like croc and snakeskin.

And who doesn't love a good amy party? Diamond cuffs, floral-painted bangles—and how cute is this—friendship bracelets brought a bit of festivity to each eclectic look.

Also noteworthy, and an often forget accessory due to it's functional purpose—belts! We love how they were injected with a vibrant pop of pattern.

Now that you've seen all the chic finishing pieces, check out our five favorite looks from the presentation:

A slouchy heathered sweater with bright magenta shorts:

Bubblegum-pink printed pants with a neon-placket blouse:

An ultra-feminine canary-print romper paired with a blush-toned blazer:

Fashion Week: Street Style Bloggers

VOGUE Street Style Blog Photos
Location: Fashion Week
Tribe: Street Style Bloggers

The fiercest of the Fashion Week tribes, this subculture of show-goers treat dressing like a competitive sport. Come Fashion Week, you can find these style junkies in their natural habitat peacocking around the Lincoln Center. Independent creatures by nature, members can be witnessed posing solo for their next blog entry or to lure street style photographers. The best of the best stake out the front row at major fashion shows in their can't-look-away designer attire.

Defining markings: Bright hues (no black or basic denim here), deliberate mismatching (in all imaginable ways), and/or statement EVERYTHING (shoes, bag, jewelry). They've even been known to pull off such style conundrums as sequined harem pants, flame shoes, and enormous neon clutches.

Chado Ralph Rucci Spring 2013: Haute Hues

Chado Ralph Rucci Spring 2013 (Getty)
A pristine, glossy white backdrop and catwalk set the mood for Chado Ralph Rucci's exquisite spring collection. Paula Abdul, Martha Stewart and Jay Manuel took front row (random, we know).

The models wore their hair in slicked back rolled-under buns while dark liner with a touch of red encircled their eyes. As for the clothes? Ralph Rucci knows how to channel the power of color better than any other New York designer. The only American designer ever invited to show Haute Couture on the Paris runways, Rucci's work is among the most-coveted among the fashion cognoscenti.

For spring, sleek whites were juxtaposed against hot pinks, oranges, and yellows. Billowing structural silhouettes were his canvas for the bold hues and rich textures.

Check out our five favorite looks and see just what earned a standing ovation!

1. Pretty in Pink Feathers

2. Mellow Yellow Beauty

3. Ballgown Drama

4. Skeletal Yellow Tulle Confection

5. Sleeve Madness

Carolina Herrera Spring 2013: Bold Elegance

Carolina Herrera (Getty)
Perched squarely front row at Carolina Herrera's Spring 2013 show were CH devotees, Ivanka Trump and Julianne Hough. Ivanka looked dazzling, showing off her long slender legs in a glittering black-and-white beaded cocktail dress.

As expected, the legendary Ms. Herrera did not disappoint. Bright colors were made elegant by lace, beading and airy fabric. The designer did what she does best and made beautiful eveningwear in her signature silhouettes with supreme elegance. The highlight of the show was when Karlie Kloss glided down the runway in the finale cream gown. Divine!

Here are our five favorite looks from the collection, tell us what you think in comments below!

1. Citrus Lace

2. Girly Opulence

3. Eastern Ballgown

4. Hot Filigree

5. Karlie's Egyptian Dress

The Best Street Style at New York Fashion Week Fall 2012

For better or worse, fur is inundating the runway and sidewalks this season. This gal balanced her glittering mini with a thick coat. Moto-chic flat boots were another clever contradiction in this eclectic look.

Looks like this fashionista is ahead of the trend! Fall 2012 runways were rife with fur-clad sleeves right off the bat. While this daring trend may be momentary, a quilted Chanel bag is forever.

At first glance this may seem like a secretary-chic ensemble, but the utilization of black and the infusion of leather with the coat's dramatic sleeves add a fresh edge. This is what it would look like if Glee's Ms. Pillsbury took a walk on the wild side.

It's official: Mint is the color of the season. Unexpected leather continues to appear in the form of cocktail dresses, mini-skirts and even wide-leg trousers like these. Try pairing your pastels with vibrant accessories like this ensemble.

Pleats, mint and billowing pants? This stylish lady hit on three major trends of the moment with a single garment. So very whimsical!

We were dying over this brilliant touch to a New York street-styler's ensemble. The metallic bag was simple in shape but cleverly added luster to a muted winter look.

Nothing warms up winter like some hot hues. We loved the mixture of three bold colors worn with windowpane tights. An over-the-shoulder jacket instantly amps up the cool factor.
