MAC Launches a Limited-Edition 'Punk Couture' Collection

(Photos courtesy)
Just when we thought we could safely retire our safety pins and studded dog collars, MAC Cosmetics went all rebel on everyone and launched a limited-edition "Punk Couture" collection, further continuning the movement's current en vogue status.

With only six pieces, the online-exclusive collection is tiny compared to MAC's usual new-launch lineup, but it covers all the bases—vampy lips, heavy eyeliner, and a rich berry nail lacquer called "Dark Angel." Check out all the pieces from the range, below!

MAC Lipstick in "Cyber," an intense blackish-purple lipstick; and "Dark Side," a deep burgundy lipstick ($15 each):

Pro Longwear Lipglass in "Dark as Night" ($20), a deep dirty purple with a slight pearl and Liquid Eye Liner in "Boot Black" ($19.50), an intense black:

Fluidline in "Blacktrack" ($16), an ultra-smooth gel eye liner with a silky finish:

Nail Lacquer in "Dark Angel" ($16), a goth romantic dark lilac:

The entire collection is available for a limited time, online only, at MACCosmetics.com.

And The Most Dangerous Primping Procedure Is...

You know that ol' saying "beauty is pain"? Well, it didn't come around for nothing. Anyone who spends at least five minutes getting ready in the morning — and if even my begrudging middle-school brother does this, I know everyone else does — knows this.

We wax — the most, uh, delicate of parts — shave, pluck, wrap our appendages (okay, hair) around sizzling 400-degree could-be torture devices (okay, curling irons), yeah, we sacrifice a lot in the name of beauty. But have you ever wondered how much?

Well, the folks over at MyVoucherCodes, a UK-based discount code and coupon site, did, so they polled 2,000 women to find out what the most common primping injuries are. The #1 biggest beauty blunder was (drumroll, please...) shaving and waxing! 48 percent of women reported suffering some sort of shaving/waxing-related boo-boo. Are you at all surprised?

Other apparently dangerous procedures included:

Sunburn from tanning (37 percent)
Got burnt while using hot tool (33 percent)
Had an allergic reaction to a beauty product (26 percent)
Eyelash curler "accident" — eek! (14 percent)
A bad reaction to hair dye (11 percent)
Tattoo/piercing malfunction (3 percent)
Teeth whitening (1 percent)

Teeth whitening, dangerous? Who knew! Also, a whopping 28 percent of women said they've never — not once ever! — suffered any sort of injury while primping. Um, secrets, please?

The EXACT Nail Polish From Chanel's Couture Show Is Available Now!

(Photo via Chanel.com)
Unless you're good ol' chums with Karl Lagerfeld, it's pretty darn near impossible to get your hands on the polishes from Chanel's runway shows immediately—it usually takes several months, if ever, for the coveted colors to hit shelves.

But lucky for us, some nail polish fairy Godmother far, far away heard our cries (or you know salespeople, either/or) and somehow the exact hue from yesterday's Chanel's Couture Spring/Summer 2013 show—Emprise, a pretty neutral coral—is available now!

The polish is part of Chanel's limited edition "Precieux Printemps Trio" collection ($27 each), which also includes Accessoire (a burnished brick red) and Fracas (a tangy pink).

So ladylike, no? They're certainly a refreshing departure from spring's typical brights and pastels—and definitely much more wearable than, say, the hungover-beauty-queen-esque hair and makeup look from the couture show.

Would You Pay $250,000 for Nail Polish?

If you literally want your hands to be dripping in diamonds, fine-jewelry maker Azature—aka the "black diamond king"—has the nail polish just for you.

That is, if you're willing to pay a pretty penny for it.

The blingest polish of them all contains 267 carats of black diamonds and clocks in at a whopping $250,000 per diamond-shaped bottle—making it (not surprisingly) the most expensive nail polish on the market to date.

According to a statement, "The nail polish is offered in Azature signature black and coats on with a glittery sheen that resembles the sparkle of an Azature diamond."

Thankfully, Azature is aware that not all of us are willing (or able for that matter) to spend, oh, just five college educations-worth on nail polish. So for $25, the brand is also releasing a similar tricked-out shade made with only one black diamond, which will be availble to Fred Segal shoppers come August.

Will you be coating your nails in diamonds this fall? Let us know in the comments below!

The Last Three Nude Nail Polishes You'll Ever Need To Buy

(From left: Essie Nail PolishButter LONDONDeborah Lippmann)
We don't know about you, but after all the sparkles, neons and red, white and blue hues from the past week, our nails are in serious need of a color detox. But as we all know, sometimes the simplest things (like the perfect natural-looking polish, ahem) are the hardest to find. Fret not, though. We've got your back (or rather your hands) and helped round up the last three nude polishes you'll ever need to buy. So without further adieu, here we go!

The Best Super-Conservative Nude: Essie Nail Polish in Allure ($8) While you typically don't ever see the words "conservative" and "nude" in the same sentence, certain situations call for an ultra-classy manicure. This soft and sophisticated sheer, which was created for—you guessed it—Allure magazine, is the most universally flattering shade we've yet to see. Just ask Kate Middleton, who wore it on her wedding day. If it's good enough for the Queen, it's good enough for your, um, "lovely" conservative mother-in-law.

The Best Sultry Shimmer For a Hot Date: Butter LONDON in Yummy Mummy ($14) No matter your skin tone, the just-right amount of seductive shimmer in this elegant beige will flatter your tips in the same way your killer LBD flatters your curves. A classic best-seller at Sephora, beauty buffs swear by the formula's super-opaque and chip-resistant properties, meaning this mani will last, well, all night long.

The Best Everyday Shade: Deborah Lippmann Nail Lacquer in Naked ($16) The name pretty much says it all—if it's nude you're after, you can't get any more in the buff than "Naked." The silky neutral lacquer is infused with subtle pink undertones, mimicking an au natural finish that goes from work to the weekend and everywhere in between. Layer on two coats and voila! Barely there perfection.

We love, love, love these shades, but we want to hear about your favorites, too! Let us know below!

Nails: Talking Trends with Celebrity Nail Artist Madeline Poole

(Photos: Madeline Pool Nails)
Madeline Poole is the crystal ball of the nail art world—and the future looks empty (as in negative space, but more on that later). As the newest manicurist of Nailing Hollywood, a two-year-old Los Angeles-based agency with a serious celebrity clientele (think Miley Cyrus, Michelle Williams, Rosie Huntington-Whitley, and Lea Michele, among others), Madeline’s done everything from decoupaging dollar bills to inventing galaxies on nails in the name of beauty. She’s also perfected ombrรฉ, likely invented the outline trend, and won acclaim for painting graphic patterns with such precision she seems like she was born with a brush in her hand. Turns out that’s not too far from the truth.

(Photos: Madeline Pool Nails)

StyleBistro: What have you been doing a lot of lately? What are your latest styles? Madeline Poole: As far as nail trends, one of my classic things is doing the outlined nails—it’s always popular with people who come to me. And even though ombrรฉ nails have been in style for a while, they continue to be big. Lately I’m using pastel neons, vibrating colors, and a lot of neon green, which is all over the place right now. There’s sort of a sportswear trend in fashion, and electric colors go with that.

(Photos: Madeline Pool Nails)
Any trends you can forecast? Leaving negative space on the nail, any way that you can look at the nail and do something unexpected or strange, those seem to be the things that catch on, at least in the blog world.

Where do you find inspiration for your designs? I might see a jacket on someone and see a pattern in it that I like. And I’m always infiltrated by pop culture: I’ve done Scream mask nails, and the Misfits skull face.

You’re a trained artist? I guess so. I went to art school and studied painting and I worked at a poster restoration shop for a while, using a really tiny brush to restore lithographs. And I worked with my mom, who’s a muralist, my whole life.

(Photos: Madeline Pool Nails)
That’s how you learned to be meticulous? Amazing. It’s funny, right? That experience was really influential. I learned how to mix colors, how to apply color, how to use a really small brush in a way that was precise—because it’s not necessarily, if you don’t use it right. Also, recreating really small images is kind of what I was doing. I was always really good at copying stuff. When I was a kid, I could copy cartoons really well. Whenever I made paintings, they were always really small. And I made egg dioramas. So I’ve been doing small painting for a long time.

It is your calling! Who are your dream clients? They’re all really obvious: Lady Gaga, Beyonce, the list goes on. All people who have outrageous style and long nails that they take care of and are part of their look. Why do you think people have become so obsessed with nails? Maybe it’s because of blog culture. It’s now just an expected part of a look. If you’re going out, having your nails done is part of that. I’ve heard a lot of people say it’s this “semi-affordable luxury,” versus buying expensive clothes, but it’s not that cheap! I’m unsure why it wasn’t big already, because it’s a really expressive way of using cosmetics. You can really show your wacky side, or your classy side, or whatever. When you have your nails done, you feel complete.

Kim Kardashian & Kate Spade Both Launch Nail Polish Lines

Kim Kardashian (Getty)
Ready to start spelling cuticle with a "k"? If you answered yes, then Kim Kardashian's got the "kompletely" fab thing just for you. The reality star broke the news Thursday that she's got a new line of laquers on the way from Nicole by OPI.

She wrote on her blog: "I am excited to reveal my brand new nail polish collection for our Kardashian Kolors...Wel-Kim to My World!! There are six new colors, which are really feminine and flirty!"

The new shades, all based on Kim's usual go-to colors, are a spectrum of soft hues. "I wanted to give you guys a similar selection that represents my signature look," she professed.

The color names are appropriately Kim-centric, so prepare yourself for some gratuitous punning. A honey nude shade is called "Kim Konfidential," while an opalescent sparkle is dubbed "Here Kim's The Sun." Then there's the cotton candy "Up & Kim-ing Pink," "Nothing Kim-pared To Blue," a shimmering pearl called "Lights, Kim-era, Action!" and a sheer white option called "Others Pale By Kim-Parison."

Before Kim's foray into spring nail shades, Nicole by OPI created a holiday collection for the entire Kardashian clan. Momager Kris Jenner, along with sisters Kourtney, Khloe, Kendall and Kylie, each had their own lacquers. The wintry-looking line featured deep shades and glittery textural options. Kardashian Kolor, including Kim's newest hues, can be found at CVS.

(ImaxTree/Kate Spade)
Kate Spade, purveyor of colorful chic, just added nail polish to her list of playful offerings. The set of four travel-sized lacquers comes in shades inspired by Australian artist Florence Broadhurst's brightly-patterned wallpapers.

Beauty expert Poppy King chose the colors for the set, naming each after one of Broadhurst's iconic designs. Included are "Yellow Cockatoos," "Orange Solar," "Watermelon Fingers" and "Seafoam Swirls."

In addition to nail polish, Kate Spade's selection of beauty products includes her fragrance Twirl and four shades of Supercalifragilipstick!. The new lacquers, like the fragrance and lipsticks, are available in Kate Spade stores and online.

Beyonce Inspires with Brilliant Blue Nail Polish

Beyonce Knowles paid tribute to baby Blue Ivy when she showed up at Carnegie Hall for husband Jay-Z's benefit concert Monday night. In honor of her new daughter, she wore vivid blue nail polish along with an exquisite ring featuring an enormous sparkling sapphire.

Celebrity manicurist Lisa Logan tweeted about B.'s brightly-hued fingertips, writing, "Check out Beyonce's blue nails called Baker Street by Nailsinc I love this color!!!" The azure shade made a bold finishing touch when paired with her fitted red Alice Temperley dress, ornate Alexander McQueen clutch and beaded Louboutin pumps.

We can't wait to duplicate Beyonce's beautiful blue look, but unfortunately the fab new cerulean shade isn't yet available. In the meantime we'll have to make due with some alternative lacquer options. China Glaze Nail Polish in Up All Night, Butter Nail Lacquer in Royal Navy, Revlon Nail Enamel in Midnight Affair and Essie Nail Color in Midnight Cami are all super-saturated brights that will create a similarly brilliant effect. The ring, however, won't be quite as easy to copy.

Trend :: Orange Crush

Get ready for a smorgasbord of delightfully-colored cosmetics! Orange you glad? We'll be seeing everything from salmon, to carrot, to tangerine on all the most famous faces. Check out some of our favorite examples of exciting ways to wear this juicy hue.

Jennifer Hudson brightened up her all-black ensemble with a just a bit of bold color at her fingertips. To recreate her look, try RGB Cosmetics Nail Polish in Coral.

Beyonce's vivid tangerine nails popped against complementary-colored sequins. The look is even more effective when she's clutching a bottle of her fragrance Beyonce Pulse. Get her look with Essie Nail Color in Capri.

When Heather Morris wears orange lipstick she most certainly wears orange lipstick. There's no denying this is a very strong shade. To recreate her bold look go for Illamasqua Lipstick in Flame.

Kat Graham's yummy apricot-hued lipstick gets us in the mood for a creamsicle! To try Kat's delightfully delicious look grab a tube of Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist Intense Lipstick in #40. (We also recommend a generous application of Bonne Bell Lip Smacker lipgloss in Orange Crush if you'd care for a bit of shine and lots of flavor.)

Unadulterated orange can be rather difficult when applied around the eyes. As Fergie demonstrates, a coppery color is much easier to pull off. To recreate Fergie's eye-brightening effect, we recommend sweeping on Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Jones.

Kelly Osbourne didn't need a blast of bright orange when she was also wearing bold bubblegum pink. Instead she accented her eyes with a hint of rich copper shadow. You can get Kelly's look using NARS Eyeshadow in California, a little black liquid liner and a bit of mascara.

Chanel Iman's Glittery Golden Manicure

Chanel Iman's manicure can be recreated using a metallic gold polish with delicate gold glitter. A great option is Glamour House Nail Color in Gold Glitter. It provides opaque coverage and contains just enough glitter to give nails a mirror-like effect.
