If you were expecting to see Taylor Swift once again swathed in tulle or decadent sequins at Sunday's Academy of Country Music Awards, you must have been delightfully surprised. She gave us something entirely new on the red carpet in this sleek cutout number.
The futuristic design of gold ribbons and sharp lines was out of the norm for the country star, but the piece was still pulled from her favorite designer, J. Mendel. The dress came from his Fall 2012 collection, which melds Space Age minimalism with Art Deco glitz (quite a different vibe from that dove gray gown of his she wore to the CMAs).
Taylor also strayed from her signature style in the realm of hair and makeup. No retro red lips and no fancy updo, just soft barely wavy tresses and ultra-thick lashes. Perfection!
