Azealia Banks Is Boycotting Dolce & Gabbana's 'Corny, Racist' Spring Collection

Dolce & Gabbana's spring 2013 collection was controversial the moment it hit the catwalk at Milan Fashion Week in September, thanks to the designers' repeated use of Blackamoor-inspired and imperialist imagery. While many D&G devotees are willing to overlook to the problematic racial implications of the collection, there's at least one celebrity who has taken a stand against cultural appropriation and exploitation: Up-and-coming rapper Azealia Banks.

For those not in the know, Banks, a Harlem native, is probably the best thing to happen to lady rap since Missy Elliott — and she's not afraid to say what she thinks. In a series of tweets on Sunday, Banks wrote: Definitely boycotting Dolce & Gabanna. Whoever designed that racist a** Dolce and Gabanna collection needs a swift kick in the mouth and a big d**k up the a**. I really hate when people do corny, racist things then try to justify it as "art." It's all just really unnecessary. the clothes in the collection were fine without all the "black mammie" imagery. Banks has become a fashion darling since the release of her mixtape Fantasea earlier this year. Her song "Bambi" soundtracked the Mugler show in Paris in January, and she also hit shows in Milan and London last month.

A few hours after she called out Dolce & Gabbana, she threw another Italian luxury label some Twitter love: "Purchased my first Gucci Item today. so weird, i have stuff from all the other houses but finally made a gucci purchase. the shoes r boss!"
