For fashion mavens, there is no event more anticipated than the Met's Costume Institute Gala (well, except for maybe the royal wedding!). But speaking of royals, this year's gala is a tribute to the late Alexander McQueen. That means you can expect to see drama at the utmost thanks to stars including Jennifer Lopez, Blake Lively, Ashely Greene, Kristen Stewart, Daphne Guinness and more. See the best and worst dressed fashionistas at the Met Gala 2011!
Paying homage to the late designer and the theme of the Met Gala, Beyonce donned a familiar silhouette with an Alexander McQueen gown. The high-necked embroidered gown channeled a Spanish bull fighter with a tulle hem. Sasha Fierce is on the scene! But rumor has it the gown is actually Emilio Pucci, we'll do some research and get back w/ you guys!!
Peep More Red Carpet Fashions from Jennifer Hudson, after the JUMP!!
Jennifer Hudson is feeling like a winner these days. At the 2011 Met Gala, the singer-actress wore a taupe gown evocative of the look she wore to accept her Oscar. Jennifer's Vera Wang strapless gown, with a full ivory underskirt, complemented her skintone beautifully. Though, this look may have wanted for some more exquisite jewels. Thoughts?
Feathers were a popular choice at the 2011 Met Gala—Lala Vasquez also joined flock. Arriving on the red carpet with Carmelo Anthony, Lala was quite the confection in peach tulle layered over wispy feathers. With a sweetheart neckline, tulle shoulder and ribbon sash, Lala appeared to be vying with Kate Middleton for princess status.
Ciara opted to wear a McQueen inspired Prabal Gurung gown to the Met Gala. The songstress accentuated her, ahem, assets with the dresses' sweet heart neckline. The soft blue and white ombre textured confection was worn with long shining curls and accessorized with black bracelets, an unusual choice.
John Legend's model girlfriend Christine Teigen is clearly still feelin' the whole Black Swan sartorial moment, giving actress Lucy Liu (also clad in feathers) a run for her red carpet money. Christine left little to the imagination in this molten feather and lace dress with a high front slit, peekaboo chest and bodysuit underneath.
Fergie looked like an 80's bride in a strong shouldered bead saturated evening gown at the Met Gala. Complete with a matching headpiece, the songstress glittered in the tulle confection with a dramatic train and intricate embroidery. Do we love it? No. Does it work for Fergie? Certainly.
Janelle Monae took a different route than most for the Met Gala, sticking to her signature style. The petite songstress opted for a minimal androgynous style rather than a dramatic ball gown. Janelle wore a Chanel ensemble with a veiled top hat, frilly collared white button down and sleek black satin pumps. She added height with a pair of black platform pumps.
Big surprise: Gisele Bunchen looked red hot in her voluminous scarlet gown by Alexander McQueen. The slim bodice fit her like a glove, and the fluted bell skirt with raw edges felt both sexy and romantic. True to her own style, Gisele finished her look with long glossy waves and a killer tan.
Kanye West isn't one to miss out on a fashionable event! The rapper and style maven wore a sleek black suit with a bow tie, custom designed by accompanying Tory Burch. Kanye looked dapper in the slim fitting pants and black patent wingtip shoes. Tory doesn't normally design men's wear, but after Kanye sported a woman's Celine tunic on stage, we don't put anything past him!
Rihanna showed up in an unexpected look for the Met Gala. The dark seductress wore a one-shoulder sequined rose Stella McCartney gown with strapply black platform sandals. The choice to wear her hair in a long red braid was a peculiar one, but it's hard to question the daring Rhi Rhi.
We can always count on haute heiress Daphne Guinness to bring full-throttle drama to the red carpet. In honor of her dear friend "Lee" McQueen, Daphne was fanciful in the high-drama feather warrior gown from the finale of Alexander McQueen's Spring 2011 show, paired with silver bridle boots from the Fall 2011 runway. And to think, she did all this dressing in window at Barneys New York. Fabulous!
Diane Kruger stepped out in a chic gown with a cinched waist and a hip-high slit that showed off her fierce legs and equally fantastic black evening sandals. Diane was accompanied by the designer, Jason Wu, and went for retro glamour with side-parted waves and a bold red lip. The blonde bombshell finished off her look with a hard case clutch and crimson coated nails.
When Jennifer Lopez gets dressed, she must stop and ask herself, Will this get me noticed? There was certainly no missing J.Lo at the 2011 Met Gala: The American Idol diva was a standout in Gucci's hot hot fuchsia cutout halter gown with a pink-and-scarlet bolero. She finishes the look with matching red lips and mani and a hot pink lizard clutch.
